Sports Management

Sports management is a highly unique industry.  Unfortunately, there are not too many opportunities to win government grants and scholarships with this major.  Sports is almost totally private sector industry, and there are significant limitations on what charitable organizations that you can approach for scholarship funding.  This is not such a bad thing however, as it tends to be more rich with opportunities for those who are willing to go the extra mile.

One of the most prevalent advantages in the sports management major is the fact that it is heavily drenched in money.  The sports industry is a booming one, and this means that you should not have too much trouble getting a job.  The only difference is that you most likely will not be able to receive too many conventional scholarships in order to fund your education.

How To Win

One of the best ways to go about winning scholarship funding in the sports industry is to actually get an internship or job working for a team, stadium, or whatever else that you think pertains to the major.  When you do this, you will be able to obtain significant connections.

It is not uncommon (in fact, it is one of the most common ways to earn scholarship funding) that students go to their future employers in order to cover their education.  This usually has one of two results:

  • Usually, the employer agrees and they will take care of a large percentage of the loans.
  • They do not agree, and the student is forced to attempt at scholarships under private charitable organizations.

Sports In College

The biggest key in sports management is not only grades, but it is a general diversity of your class and experience that will get you a job.  If your experience is limited, then there is a good chance that you will not always get the job, but you could also be denied scholarship funding.

Last but not least, you should always fill out as many scholarship applications as possible, regardless of if you’ve begun working for a major team or large corporation.

This will help you cover your basis.  With this, you should always make sure that you are keeping your GPA up, and that you pairing that with other job site experiences.  These days, it is not only what you know, it is what you can do that affords you opportunities.  For the best students, you might not be able to pay for college; just let someone else pay your tab!

Here are a few other opportunities for scholarship funding that may help:
